Whatever your age, whatever your sex, when your hair starts to make a retreat, it is devastating. There are many possible reasons for hair to begin falling out, including some serious medical conditions. So at the first sign of hair loss, see your doctor. After he rules out a health problem, you can try natural remedies to help promote regrowth.
For starters, examine your diet. Look around you; most people make poor food choices, full of calories and salt and fat and low in nutrients. Be honest with yourself and determine if you are one of them. Not only is this important for your overall well-being, but malnourished or undernourished hair follicles will have a hard time producing healthy and strong strands of hair if they can produce any at all. The best way to boost your diet is to choose fresh, whole foods that are nutrient rich such as vegetables (all kinds), dark leafy greens, fruits and protein-rich legumes. Think color — reds, oranges, purples, yellows, deep greens — when making your meals. But while you work on creating a healthy, colorful diet, start taking these hair-health supplements: vitamin C (lack of this can cause brittle hair); saw palmetto (better known for promoting prostate health in men, everyone can take it to interfere with the hormone DHT that causes hair loss in both men and women); biotin (even doctors prescribe this B-family vitamin for hair loss); vitamin A (not just for eyes, it promotes the growth of healthy hair, skin and nails); nettle root (also interferes with DHT); and zinc (slows down hair loss and encourages growth).
You can also start using an apple cider vinegar treatment. You make a hair rinse of equal parts water and apple cider vinegar (only the raw or unpasteurized kind!) and keep it handy in a bottle in the shower. Massage some into your scalp after shampooing and leave in for about five minutes. You can run it through your hair and even leave it in, if you want. The unfiltered apple cider vinegar (you know you bought the right stuff if it’s cloudy and has stringy things floating around in it) is chock full of nutrients, balances the scalps pH and sloughs off skin cells that can be blocking hair follicles. Your hair can benefit from ACV taken internally, as well. Add one teaspoon to a glass of water and drink three times a day.
